Train Robbers Pull Away for 18-6 Win

June 20 2021 The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated the Monterey Amberjacks 18-6 after scoring in six of the final seven innings. Bakersfield collected 16 hits, including three home runs, while Monterey finished with eight hits and committed five errors.

Monterey led 1-0 after the first inning and remained within one run at 4-3 after three innings. Bakersfield then scored once in the fifth, three times in the sixth, four in the seventh, four in the eighth and twice in the ninth to break the game open. The Amberjacks scored three times in the fourth but were held scoreless over the final five innings.

Dakota McFadden led Bakersfield with a home run, four RBI and one run scored. Justin Carey went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs, while Rory Graf-Brennen also collected three hits and three RBI. Malcolm Smith added three RBI, Alex Cornell hit a two-run homer, and Graf-Brennen also homered. PJ Harrington scored four runs and drew two walks.

Stanley Vargas earned the win for Bakersfield by allowing one hit and no runs over five innings with five strikeouts and two walks. Zach Devon started and allowed six runs, five earned, on seven hits in four innings while striking out six. Brandon Flaherty took the loss for Monterey after surrendering 12 runs, eight earned, on 12 hits in 6.1 innings. AJ Pollack hit a solo home run for the Amberjacks and drove in two runs.
