July 4 2022 The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated Wasco Reserve 6-4 at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Bakersfield scored three runs in the first inning, added one in the fourth and two in the fifth to build a 6-2 lead before Wasco scored twice in the eighth. The Train Robbers finished with seven hits while Wasco collected 10.
Seth Strong led Bakersfield with two hits, two runs and one RBI. Alex Cornell hit a home run and drove in a run, while Omar Ortiz added two RBIs. John Nunn Jr. and John Daly also drove in runs. Wasco’s Abimael Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs, and Emmanuel Ocassio, Jessey Melendez and Brody Perkes each had an RBI.
Chris Rodriguez earned the win for Bakersfield after allowing four runs, one earned, on nine hits in seven innings. He struck out seven and walked three. Stanley Vargas worked the final two innings, allowing one hit while striking out two, to earn the save. Wasco starter Gehrig Taylor took the loss after permitting six runs, four earned, on six hits in five innings.
