July 15 2022 The Martinez Sturgeon defeated the Bakersfield Train Robbers 7-6 in 12 innings. Martinez collected 14 hits and overcame a six-run performance by Bakersfield, which finished with nine hits. The Sturgeon committed two errors, while the Train Robbers had three.
Bakersfield scored once in the first inning and added single runs in the third and fifth before pushing across two runs in the sixth. Martinez answered with two runs in the fifth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth. The teams exchanged runs in the 10th inning before Martinez scored the deciding run in the 12th.
Joe Curcio led Bakersfield with three hits, three runs, one RBI and a home run. Joe Riddle drove in three runs, while Brandon Douglas had one hit, two runs and one RBI. For Martinez, Albert Dominguez and Chris Carter each recorded three hits, and Jordan Jackson went 3-for-5 with two runs, one RBI and a home run. Jackson also had a double, while Dominguez added a double.
James Portillo earned the win for Martinez after pitching one scoreless inning with one hit allowed. Pedro Torrealba worked 5.1 innings and was charged with five runs, while Martinez relievers Chandler, H and Ellis Stevens combined for 5.2 innings before Portillo finished the game. Luke Kelley struck out 11 over eight innings for Bakersfield, allowing 10 hits and five runs, three earned. Gehrig Taylor took the loss after allowing three hits and one run without recording an out.
