June 24 2023 The San Rafael Pacifics held off the Bakersfield Train Robbers 9-8 after overcoming an eight-run fourth inning by Bakersfield. San Rafael finished with 16 hits and no errors while Bakersfield collected 14 hits and committed two errors.
San Rafael scored twice in each of the first three innings to take a 6-2 lead. Bakersfield then erupted for six runs in the fourth to move ahead 8-6, but the Pacifics answered with one run in the fifth and two in the sixth to regain the lead and preserve the one-run victory.
Chris Iazzetta powered Bakersfield’s offense with two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-5. Seth Strong added three hits, and Tevin Brown drove in two runs. For San Rafael, Kyle Guerra went 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, and Nick Smith went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Kevin Johnson added two hits and an RBI.
Chris Allen earned the win for San Rafael after allowing five hits and no runs in five innings with four strikeouts. Kohto Hasegawa was charged with eight runs on nine hits in four innings, while Gehrig Taylor took the loss after giving up two runs on three hits in one-third of an inning. Hunter Adams finished the game for Bakersfield with 2.2 scoreless innings.
