July 21 2023 The Monterey Amberjacks defeated the Bakersfield Train Robbers 10-8 at Sollectio Park. Monterey finished with 13 hits and no errors while Bakersfield collected 11 hits and committed one error.
Monterey opened the scoring with five runs in the first inning. Bakersfield answered with two runs in the second and added single runs in the third and fourth before Monterey scored twice in the fifth and once in the eighth. The Train Robbers scored three times in the ninth, but Monterey held on for the win.
Rodney Scarver led Monterey with three hits, including two home runs, three runs and four RBI. Joshua Rodriguez added two hits, a home run, one run and three RBI, while Joseph Barrons went 3-for-3 with one RBI. Bakersfields Rick Phillips had three hits, including a home run, with one run and two RBI. Raul Ortega and Paul Von Zboray also homered for the Train Robbers, with Von Zboray contributing two hits two runs and two RBI.
Dominic Scotti earned the win after allowing four hits and three earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts in two innings. Joseph Barrons worked six innings for Monterey and allowed six hits and five earned runs with three walks and four strikeouts. Bakersfield starter R. Portillo pitched eight innings and allowed 12 hits and eight runs four earned while striking out five. Aaron Hurt took the loss after surrendering two runs in 1.1 innings.
