Martinez Sturgeon Edge Bakersfield in 14 Innings

July 6 2024 The Martinez Sturgeon defeated the Bakersfield Train Robbers 3-2 in 14 innings. Martinez scored once in the first and third innings before Bakersfield answered with runs in the third and eighth. The Sturgeon pushed across the deciding run in the 14th inning to secure the victory.

Andrew Curran led Martinez with a 5-for-6 performance that included three doubles and two runs scored. Erik Whitfield went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, while Jon Fargnoli added an RBI. Bakersfield received two hits from Noah McCreary and Isaiah Mirabal, who also drove in the Train Robbers first run. Bakersfield finished with seven hits and Martinez collected 12.

Jesue Rivera earned the win for Martinez after pitching four scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out seven and walking three. Isaiah Chavez started for the Sturgeon and allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts over six innings. Bakersfield starter Joe Riddle worked six innings and allowed two runs on eight hits, while Josiah Bowles took the loss despite allowing one run on four hits in seven innings.
