Martinez Sturgeon Pull Away From Bakersfield 12-8

June 2 2025 The Martinez Sturgeon defeated the Bakersfield Train Robbers 12-8, collecting 19 hits while holding Bakersfield to eight. Martinez scored twice in the second inning, added a run in the fifth and broke the game open with six runs in the seventh. The Sturgeon added two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to secure the victory.

Andrew Curran led Martinez with six hits in six at-bats, four RBI and three runs scored. Tyler Best went 2-for-4 with three runs, two walks and a home run, while Jackson Kea drove in three runs. Wataru Kumagai added three hits, including a double and a triple, and Tanner Graham and Clayton Friemuth also recorded multiple RBI. Martinez homered twice, with Best and Curran supplying the home runs.

Bakersfield answered with one run in the first, one in the fourth, two in the seventh and four in the eighth, but could not complete the comeback. Emilio Luna had two hits and an RBI, while JD Leslie hit a two-run home run as a pinch hitter. Tyler McKenna and Ashanti Ross also drove in runs for the Train Robbers.

Friemuth earned the win after allowing four runs on five hits over seven innings, with five walks and six strikeouts. Myles Rothfarb recorded the save by working 1.2 scoreless innings without allowing a hit and striking out three. Kyle Langston took the loss for Bakersfield after giving up three runs on nine hits in five innings.
