5/18/2026-The Bakersfield Train Robbers opened the 2026
season in dominant fashion Monday night, cruising
to a 12-1 victory over the Austin Weirdos before
1,106 fans at Sam Lynn Ballpark.
Bakersfield wasted no time setting the tone,
exploding for four runs in the bottom of the first
inning. Jumpei Ohashi launched a solo home run to
left field to put the Train Robbers on the board,
and the offense kept rolling from there. RBI
opportunities from Sean Connolly and patient at-
bats helped Bakersfield build an early 4-0
advantage.
The Weirdos got their lone run in the third inning
when starting pitcher Harrison Nation helped his
own cause with a solo homer to left field,
trimming the deficit to 4-1. It would be Austin’s
only hit-producing moment of the night as the
Train Robbers pitching staff took control.
Bakersfield starter Levi Tucker earned the win
with six strong innings, allowing just two hits
and one run while striking out nine. Relievers
Tristan Perry and Hunter Adams combined to finish
the final three innings, helping the staff rack up
15 strikeouts on the night.
The Train Robbers broke the game open in the sixth
inning with five runs. Ohashi delivered the
biggest blow of the frame with his second home run
of the game, a two-run shot that extended the lead
to 9-1. Bakersfield added two more runs in the
seventh inning to complete the rout.
Ohashi led the offensive attack by going 3-for-4
with four runs scored, three RBIs, two home runs,
and a double. Connolly added a two-run double,
while Cade Fujii collected three hits and an RBI.
Joe Riddle drove in two runs for Bakersfield,
which finished with nine hits and drew seven
walks.
Austin managed just three hits and committed four
errors in the loss. Nation took the defeat after
allowing 10 runs, eight earned, over 5.1 innings.
The victory gives Bakersfield a strong start to
the 2026 Pecos League season as the club looks to
build momentum early at home.
