Train Robbers Pull Away for 8-4 Win
June 18 2017 The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated the Monterey Amberjacks 8-4 at Sollectio Park. Bakersfield collected 10 hits and scored all eight of its runs in the third and fourth innings, while Monterey finished with seven hits and four runs.
Bakersfield broke through with three runs in the third inning and added five more in the fourth to take control. Monterey answered with three runs in the fourth and one in the eighth, but could not close the gap. Bakersfield also turned two double plays and committed two errors, while Monterey was charged with one error.
Willie Ethington led the Train Robbers with two hits and five RBIs, including a home run and a double. Jay Stout added a home run, three RBIs, two runs and two walks, while Christopher Ervin and Alex Sawelson each recorded two hits. Austin Holbrook provided Monterey’s main offensive contribution with two hits and two RBIs, including a double.
Kevin Klaess earned the win for Bakersfield after allowing seven hits and four runs over eight innings. None of the runs were earned, and Klaess struck out seven while walking three. Zach Stilwell completed the victory with a scoreless ninth inning. Jako Kelm took the loss for Monterey after allowing eight runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings, while Tristan Hubler followed with 4.1 scoreless innings and six strikeouts.
