Yardbirds Use Strong Start to Defeat Train Robbers 7-3

May 26 2018 The High Desert Yardbirds scored four runs in the first inning and went on to defeat the Bakersfield Train Robbers 7-3. High Desert finished with nine hits and added two runs in the sixth inning and one in the eighth to secure the victory. Bakersfield collected seven hits and scored twice in the first inning and once in the second. Kent Blackstone led the Yardbirds with two hits and two RBIs. Steven Longo also had two hits, while Dominic Zaher drove in two runs. Demetrius Moorer scored twice and reached base four times with two hits and two walks. High Desert stole four bases as a team, including three by Moorer. Kade Wagner earned the win for High Desert after allowing six hits and three runs over seven innings. None of the runs were earned, and Wagner struck out six while walking three. Kendall Radcliff and Kevin Kelleher each pitched a scoreless inning in relief, combining for four strikeouts. Sonny Cortez had two hits and an RBI for Bakersfield, while Shane Sharkey added a hit and an RBI. Alex Hamilton took the loss after recording just one out and allowing four runs, three earned, on three hits and three walks. Rob Lain held the Yardbirds to two runs over 5 2/3 innings in relief.
