Yardbirds Hold Off Train Robbers 4-2

May 28 2018 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the Bakersfield Train Robbers 4-2 after building an early lead and holding Bakersfield to one run over the final seven innings. High Desert outhit Bakersfield 11-8 and played error-free baseball while the Train Robbers committed two errors.

High Desert scored once in the second inning, twice in the third and once in the sixth. Steven Longo finished with one hit and two RBI, while Demetrius Moorer, Kent Blackstone, Aaron Cook and Ronnie Grant each collected two hits. Dominic Zaher and Grant added doubles, and Zaher scored once.

Adolfo Espinoza earned the win after allowing four hits and one earned run in six innings. He walked two and struck out two. Gregg Gausden worked the final three innings to record the save, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out one.

Bakersfield scored in the second and ninth innings. Shane Sharkey and Jesse Baker each had two hits, with Baker contributing one RBI. Dylan Porter took the loss after allowing six hits and three runs in five innings, though only one run was earned. Jonathan Fleckenstein pitched two innings and allowed one run, while John Chalupa and Jordan Grader each worked a scoreless inning.
