May 31 2018 The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated the California City Whiptails 8-7 at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. Bakersfield overcame a 7-5 deficit by scoring three runs in the ninth inning to complete the comeback. The Train Robbers finished with eight runs on eight hits while California City collected 13 hits and committed three errors.
California City took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and broke through for five runs in the seventh to move ahead 6-5. The Whiptails added another run in the eighth, but Bakersfield answered with three runs in the bottom of the ninth. Bakersfield had also scored once in the second, once in the fourth and three times in the fifth.
Nick Snyder led California Citys offense with four hits in five at-bats, including two doubles and a triple, while Taylor Zeutenhorst had two hits and two RBI. Jordan Dicks added three hits, and Carson Lee drove in a run. For Bakersfield, Bobby Webb went 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Tobias Moreno also recorded two RBI. Bakersfields eight runs included only one home run listed in the box score: none.
Rob Lain delivered 6.1 innings for Bakersfield, allowing eight hits and three runs while striking out eight. David Ruiz earned the win after pitching two innings with three strikeouts, three hits allowed and one run. California Citys Brandon Anderson worked two scoreless innings, but Justin Kortessis was charged with the loss after Bakersfields ninth-inning rally.
