July 10 2018 The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated the California City Whiptails 5-4 in 10 innings. Bakersfield collected 11 hits without an error, while California City finished with three hits and one error.
California City scored once in the second inning and twice in the eighth to take a 3-1 lead. Bakersfield answered with three runs in the sixth, and the teams exchanged a run in the 10th before the Train Robbers secured the victory.
Rob Lain led Bakersfield with three hits in three at-bats and drove in a run. C. Rocker added two hits and two RBIs, while Kyle Bonicki had two hits and scored twice. Bakersfield also received one hit apiece from Brett Balkan, Nick Vehlewald, Tobias Moreno and Bobby Webb.
Nick Snyder hit a home run for California City and finished with one hit and one RBI. Eli Roundtree added a double and an RBI, while Hunter Villanueva and Scott Stetson also drove in runs.
Rob Lain pitched six innings for Bakersfield, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out nine. Zach Williams earned the win with 1.2 scoreless innings and four strikeouts, and Jonathan Fleckenstein recorded the save with a scoreless inning and three strikeouts. Albert Neff worked 5.1 innings for California City, allowing seven hits and three earned runs, while Tomas Gutierrez took the loss after allowing three hits and one run in one inning.
