Monterey Amberjacks Defeat Bakersfield Train Robbers 5-3

July 14 2018 The Monterey Amberjacks defeated the Bakersfield Train Robbers 5-3, scoring five unanswered runs across the second through fifth innings before holding Bakersfield scoreless over the final three frames. Monterey collected 10 hits to Bakersfield’s eight and committed one error while the Train Robbers played error-free baseball.

Monterey took a 3-0 lead in the second inning, added a run in the fourth and another in the fifth. Dynas Doud went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs, while Jordan Gray finished 2-for-3 with a home run, one run and two RBIs. James Prockish added two hits, and Jeremy Glore contributed a hit and an RBI. Bakersfield answered with three runs in the sixth, highlighted by Peter Yorgen’s two-hit, two-RBI performance and a home run. Brett Balkan and B. Luebcke also had two hits apiece for the Train Robbers.

Gray earned the win after allowing eight hits and three earned runs in six innings, with five walks and four strikeouts. D. Speranza worked two scoreless innings, and Prockish recorded the save with a scoreless ninth that included two strikeouts. Bakersfield starter Jesse Remington took the loss after surrendering five runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings, while Jonathan Fleckenstein struck out four in two scoreless innings of relief.
