June 4 2019 The California City Whiptails overcame an eight-run effort by the Bakersfield Train Robbers to secure a 13-8 victory. California City finished with nine hits and scored six runs in the eighth inning to pull away after Bakersfield had taken an 8-7 lead in the sixth.
California City built a 7-5 advantage with a five-run fifth inning before Bakersfield answered with three runs in the sixth. The Whiptails then sent six runners across in the eighth to settle the high-scoring contest. California City also scored once in the second inning and once in the third.
Blake Wilson led California City with three hits, two runs and an RBI. Ben Tingen added two hits and scored three times, while Jose Tejeda hit a home run and drove in three runs. Zachary Pavelock scored three runs and contributed two RBI, and Trevor Wick added a hit and two RBI.
Wick earned the win after allowing one hit and no runs with one walk and six strikeouts over four innings. Scott Bigelow started for California City and allowed nine hits and eight runs over five innings. Bakersfield’s Jarrett Anton had three hits and two runs, while Nathan Etheridge hit a home run and drove in one run and Luis Alvarado homered and finished with three RBI. Tyler Baumann took the loss for Bakersfield despite striking out 11 in 5.2 innings.
