Bakersfield Holds Off High Desert 6-5
June 7 2019 The Bakersfield Train Robbers held off the High Desert Yardbirds 6-5 at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. Bakersfield collected eight hits and took the lead with one run in the first inning, another in the third and two more in the fourth. High Desert finished with six hits and answered with one run in the third and one in the seventh before rallying for three runs in the eighth.
Bakersfield’s final two runs came in the ninth inning, providing the winning margin. Deandre Smith and N. Etheridge each had two hits, while Smith and Etheridge drove in one run apiece. Tyler Baumann went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Karlos Joseph and Darian Fleming each added a hit as pinch-hitters.
Dillon Fahr led High Desert with two hits and an RBI, including two doubles. Anthony Ward went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Daniel Gardner also drove in a run. Bakersfield starter Reid Feeley allowed five hits and two earned runs over seven innings while striking out eight. Spencer Backstrom earned the win with two scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out five. High Desert starter Harry Ferguson struck out six over five innings, and Andrew Cartier was charged with the loss after allowing one run in two-thirds of an inning.
