June 27 2019 The California City Whiptails defeated the Bakersfield Train Robbers 7-5 after building an early lead at Balsitis Park. California City scored four runs in the first inning and added three more in the fourth to take a 7-0 advantage. Bakersfield answered with one run in the fifth one in the sixth two in the seventh and one in the eighth but could not complete the comeback.
Giovanni Prado led California City with three hits in four at-bats. Cody Castro and Jacob Gonzalez each collected two hits with Castro driving in two runs and Gonzalez adding one RBI. Joe Lavin drove in three runs and scored twice while Ben Tingen had one hit and one RBI. The Whiptails finished with 10 hits and seven runs.
Bakersfield totaled eight hits in the loss. Luis Alvarado went 2-for-3 with one RBI while Tyler Baumann also had two hits and drove in one run. Karlos Joseph contributed one hit and two RBI and Reinaldo Valdez added one hit and one RBI.
Scott Bigelow earned the win for California City after allowing seven hits and four earned runs over seven innings. He walked one and struck out 10. Jacob Gonzalez recorded the save with 1.2 scoreless innings and four strikeouts. Bakersfield starter Devin Alexander took the loss after surrendering nine hits and seven runs in five innings while striking out nine.
